Curious to grow herbs this summer? Here’s what you need to make an indoor herb garden.
Choose your plants
Consider what your favourite herbs to cook with are. Some of the most popular are basil, rosemary, parsley, lemongrass, thyme and oregano. You can grow from seed, or you can purchase potted plants.
Proper soil
Once you’ve selected the herbs you want to grow, make sure you find high-quality soil to grow them in. Don’t forget to use containers that have drainage holes so any excess water can drain out.
Sunshine requirements
One of the most significant factors to having a thriving herb garden is to have adequate lighting. If you do not have a windowsill with a minimum of 5 hours of direct sunlight, opt for a grow light. There are many small versions available that will work perfectly for smaller indoor spaces.
Water frequently
Although some herbs are more drought tolerant than others, you want to avoid letting herbs dry out completely. If you notice any wilting or yellowing on your plants, it is time to water and consider a schedule. When you see the soil turn a light brown, or the first 1-2 inches are dry, it is likely time to water your herbs.
